The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was a staged event planned to mislead the public and authorities.
In a press release on April 3, 2026, the DCI confirmed that investigations showed the supposed abduction was a deliberate act intended to create panic and draw public attention.
The case began with a missing person report filed at Karen Police Station on March 22, 2026. This prompted a thorough investigation, which included looking at CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
Investigators compiled a clear timeline showing Tuju’s vehicle, with registration number KCL 346P, leaving the Entim Sidai Hotel on March 21, 2026. It briefly interacted with a white Toyota Probox. The Probox, registration KDN 673L, was later seen moving in sync with Tuju’s vehicle, indicating that the drivers had planned this rather than it being a random encounter.
Further footage showed both cars driving in opposite directions before meeting again along Nandi Road, confirming a planned operation.
Around 7:17 pm, Tuju’s car reportedly stopped at Miotoni Lane with its lights off, just before the Probox arrived and positioned itself in front. Within moments, three people exited Tuju’s vehicle and entered the Probox, which then drove away, marking the end of the staged disappearance.
The DCI identified several people of interest, including the Probox driver, a communications handler, and others believed to have helped coordinate the incident’s narrative.
Authorities noted that the Probox involved in the operation has not yet been seized and is still being tracked down as the investigation continues.
The agency stressed that these findings go against earlier claims that Tuju was being pursued by suspicious vehicles, dismissing those allegations as part of the made-up story.
DCI also warned that any attempts to spread false statements or interfere with the investigation would not stop their pursuit of justice, and legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
